As always, it depends upon what your desires are. The car is a ten year old design but based on the Mercedes E series at the time (from when they were commonly owned). So it is an old platform. But, of course, Chrysler has updated many internal components not the least of which are the engines.
It is not really comparable to an Elantra. The Elantra is a lot smaller and the Charger r/t is a muscle car and larger.
Are you looking for a muscle car? Are you going to track the car? How do you drive? Is mpg important? Etc.
