I'm assuming I'm going to need a mid pipe? My next question is, is there a catalytic converter in the stock setup's mid pipe? and if so, would it be better to go with a carless DP or carless Mid?

On m235i there is only one catalytic converter and it's in the downpipe.
The whole exhaust from downpipe back is one piece and has no others cats but has a small resonator just ahead of rear axle and then the muffler at the rear.
I have MPE and sports cat DP and it sounds superb. You may want just eisenman rear box and a different DP.
