Must admit one concern with the black was that it would not be enough of a contrast with the Graphite. But then again, might look good.

They are definitely rarer than the white euro's, so that's a +ve factor. Rare enough to get a 1'er and unique plates. The dark on dark factor gives less attention to the plates and more to the car IMO. In the end it's a personal preference.
Cozza - I like the shot of the white on white too! I thought of getting personalised plates but chose random euro plates in the end.
