The answer I received from the BMW Genius hotline on this question was no. The best you can do is set certain songs as favorites and then start from the beginning of that list. You cannot have a few different playlists for different moods.
I've started using my bluetooth connection to stream music from my phone and use its playlist functionality. That way I also get Waze alerts which are important to me.
