A couple of years ago they assigned me a protege at work (I know a lot of stuff that matters intrinsically to the operation of certain critical aspects of the organization), in anticipation of the day I walk out the door for good (I'm in that age range). Today I admitted to myself that there's nothing more I can do; he'll never cut it. It shouldn't bother me -- I'll be gone, and immune to the effects of his impact on the company -- but it does.
