I think this is definately the EGR mate.
I have the exact symptom on mine, feels like a split second hesitation.
Seems like the only solution is to blank the POS off (there are blanking things on eBay), get BMW to replace it (not cheap) or get them to turn the EGR down (i think someone on another board with a 120d got this done)
Others have cleaned out the EGR valve but when i removed mine, it was minty clean.
I am going to speak to my mapping chap to see if he can do it himself.
Will keep you posted.
EDIT:
You can also disconnect the EGR without causing any errors etc by blocking off the vacuum pipe to it. i would rather it was programmed in though to be honest in case other sensors take parameters from it.
