Every year the front runners will gap the field. It's the combination of a good car and driver. The champion drivers and their rival will normally be miles ahead of the rest of the field.
It's completely normal and it's impossible to change it.

I've not actively watched F1, but have watched since the late 90s. It is a boring sport IMO, I'll watch it but if there's something better, which there usually is, I'll click between the channels. There are 2 teams that are usually competitive, but most of the time there are one or two exciting passes per race. All the announcers talk about is the anticipation of an undercut, so boring. Netflix makes F1 seem much more interesting than it really is by adding a human element. If I was a new fan and I saw the series and then an actual race, I'd be supremely disappointed.
