TL;DR I was a nervous wreck that entire trip, and the real FML moment was driving on a 7-mile stretch of road made of Item 4 (coarse gravel). Thankfully, I didn't put a single ding into that Jeep, and it was a huge relief to drop it off back at the rental place when we returned home.....
