Yes but Porsche then owned up to the issue and slapped a 10-year warranty on those engines and replaces them without much hesitation.
Compare that to some other manufactures, including *ahem* BMW, where the F8X has a "known" crank-hub issue yet most dealers won't even acknowledge it, let alone BMW corporate throwing a 10 year extended warranty on those engines.
