Technology carries three risks: poor engineering (including poor test engineering), approvals of technology components with known risks, and lack of disclosure / training. Boeing's MCAS comes to mind.

I think Maserati made the right decision as a company acknowledging that replicating complex technology is an effort wrought with risks as well as a poor investment. It's better to source it from companies with deeper experience.

At the same time, I prefer to drive my own car considering software is only as good as the person who wrote the code, tested the code, and approved the code.
