It does lack the modern ignition system and more importantly, Vanos.
So I agree with 8600rpm that the S50B32 was the first great racing engine. Well maybe the B30.

Thought the later S38 had coil on plug ignition?
Vanos is what makes these engines more streetable actually, not a racing engine. The guys that I race with that build really hairy race S50/2 or S54 engines for their race cars actually take the Vanos out or at least have to shim it. The wild cams they put in won't work with Vanos and there's little need for power in the low RPM range on the race track. They sure do scream on the top end though!
