I don't blame him. sadly there isn't much control on it, there is an Automatic mode, a Program mode, and some simple video capture. But the manual mode is only ISO adjustment (minimal at best) and a slight bit of + or - EV

very simple. but effective i guess.

I was thinking about picking him up a used 6megapixel Nikon DSLR i saw a few weeks back, but i'm not sure he'd appreciate it.
Hell yeah. My old 2001-ish A80 @ ISO800 takes pictures better than my 2006-ish S3 IS does @ ISO400. The latter camera sucks in the low light/dark. If it wasn't for the optical zoom, I'd chuck it.
