If the new 7 Series is any indication, BMW could bring back the
540 (& the 530) with their respective updated engines instead of using the 528/535 designations. The updated version of the N53 does have more power than the previous V8 engines in the 540 & 740, so performance would likely be on a par in the new F10, if not better.
