Ah okay, in that case you just have to watch it if they start kicking out then force would have to be used I guess.
Over here as you probably know police carry just pepper spray and cuffs, beat bobbies I think have telescopic tube batons also (which replaced the wooden truncheons in '94) and these are made of either hardened steel which can do serious damage even kill with a head strike with some others being made of plastic, wood or rubber.
Of course armed police, known as SO18 can be mobilised depending on the situation.
