Unfortunately, the HANS devices do not offer much protection against side or lateral impacts. The raised sides of the cockpit help a bit and other vehicles have the halo seats, but there is no safety device equivalent to the HANS that specifically helps with side impacts.
It would be great if someone came up with a solution for it.
