My nearly 17 year old Son is the same. Love's horror but I asked him last night if he'd like to come and see this with me and he started to shake.

Doesn't like clowns apparently.

It really depends on how old you are? When IT came out, I was a kid and found IT scary.

I read the book when I was around 11 or 12 and loved it...it was a little mature I guess. But I never ended up watching the original. I shouldn't actually base my opinion on others, but with movies I tend to go by their advice. In this case they said it would spoil the as a let down. But taken in context I need to see it to be able to enjoy and compare both movies to the book and their respective adaptions.

Absolutely. I actually plan to watch the original again soon...

Movies never pack as much details as a book can. But some movies transfer very well onto film. From what I can remember, the original film should still hold up well today.

When I saw the trailer, I laughed. Not particularly scary. The part where the clown runs really fast towards the camera reminded me of when I was little and my mom chased me through the house to beat my ass.

I was in a bookstore last night and they had "IT" on display. I picked up a copy and just starting going to different pages and reading, and I though it was the most banal kind of writing. Granted I haven't read the book, maybe the story and getting a feel for the horror aspect gives it gravitas.

I watched the original on BR recently. Now granted... We're talking 80's here people and also it was specifically "made for television". So nothing epic by any means. But, I appreciated it. My kids also found it disturbing. Most likely they won't watch the remake as it is rated R for graphic violence.

THIS is what made it all the more scary, since it left it up to you to fill in the blanks with your own twisted, sick, perverted maniacal vision of what Penny did.

The original was pretty scary. and good, until the last 20 minutes or so, then it sucked.

I never understood the first film as a kid and why I was supposed to be scared, i just didn't get it and found it massively boring.

Had far too much going on this past weekend. I'll try and catch it next weekend. Anyone here see it? Thoughts?

I saw it. The banter between all the neighborhood kids was very funny. All they do is crack jokes on each other through the whole movie. Reminded me of The Sandlot. The movie itself has a lot of CGI and it's not that scary. Very demented and dark. I read a review that the scenes are very disjointed and have to agree. I also saw it in a AMC Dolby Cinema which was a nice experience.

If you watch STRANGER THINGS on Netflix, the one kid is also in that fantastic series!
I enjoy the genre so I'm in.

I noticed over the weekend that my DVR caught me a copy of the original. Going to watch it again before paying money to see the new one.

Saw this the other night. Good remake. Would watch again. I'm amazed how many people that are watching this haven't seen the original or don't even know it's a remake. How sad.

Saw IT! Very entertaining! The kids were all hilarious!
Great in keeping with the original plot and story. Def 3 he creepiest Clown this far in movie history. That guy nailed this character of Pennywise.

I wasn't too impressed.

Overall I enjoyed the movie though. Some of the things I didn't like are below.

I love stranger things, but I didn't like having one of the stars from that show playing almost the exact same character in IT. Someone said, "hey let's throw some binoculars on his face and maybe people won't recognize him"... lol

Also, the banter with the kids was great. However, it is literally a carbon copy of stranger things. So again, my love for that series made me confused on what I'm watching. Is it stranger things or am I watching IT? Regardless, it felt like a rip off.

What I can not stand is that most scary movies use the same cookie cutter method of getting the audience scared. Let's have some loud shrill noises as the monster races towards the camera. This happened way too much. I wanted more of the slow burning creepy stuff like the opening scenes where we are wondering if IT is in the basement or not when he grabs the wax. Or wondering what on earth is going to happen when the boat falls into the drain. Those scenes made my stomach turn upside down with how it literally made me scare myself, wondering what is going to happen.

My favorite scene was the whole 3 minutes of the boat going down the drain. So it was a bummer to have the same excitement not be replicated the entire remainder of the movie.

Again I thought it was entertaining but could have been much better. And I wish it had its own identity more than feeling like stranger things season 2.
