It's entertaining to read the suggestions to kill models that are successful. The entire point of the article in the OP is to eliminate models that are not selling well anymore, especially those that haven't caught on in China which is now the world's largest luxury market.

Killing the M3 or 4 Series Gran Coupe would make no sense. It's like saying Coca Cola should just kill off Diet Coke because regular Coke is better anyway.

BMW = German Toyota. It's not what they should be striving for.

Very Sad.

BMW does not care about what customers think. Only sales.

With that being said, I look forward to the unveiling of the $70k FWD 120i 6 door convertible dragon edition.

I love my GT I love my F36 4 GC and I love my i01
i3 I don't understand why there's so much hate in these models. The F07 5er GT w Msport is a unique and somewhat large car but it's simply awesome. In a word it's very "smooth" IMOHO -
The 4er GC is an innovative addition to a stale breed of 3s utilizing the rear space via a 5th door hatch is simply good use of space and very well executed both in form and function. I just don't get it. I will be hard pressed to not get another one and step back down to just 2 or 4 doors after having one. The only "down" on the platform is that it's not offered with a more beastly power plant than the current one. Say an M motored version ?) but with tuning and a few minor mods the platform DOES perform similarly despite its lesser price tag.

They need the i to bump up the Cafe average probably. Both cars are ugly as hell...and the i8 is slick but crazy stupid to get in/out of.....

BTW, you forgot the X3 M40i, X4M and the X7M.

Thinking that way, why not drop the M3 and make a M4 GC? NOPE...can't kill the icon. How about we keep the M3 and make a M4 GC? SWEET! Well wait...that's not really removing anything. How about make a M4 GC and call it an M3? This could happen in a single 7 year life cycle. IMO...this is the direction they will be heading in...keeping the 3er 4 doors and the 4er 2 doors.

My head hurts...are they making any money?

You may not need an X3M, but I do and there is a huge market which again = MONEY.

+1
AND they will actually be ADDING new models for at least 2 life cycles. That's @ 14 years folks.

IMO what will happen is the something similar to this:
The 4 series GC will be come the 3 series 4 door...in like 14 years.

I have an X3 and contemplate swapping my GC for the upcoming X3M..but it'll be priced into the stratosphere and I already have a truck. Makes zero sense and for the cost of the upcoming truck, I'd get a Cayman .

I'd like to see the sales charts for all the models. Seems like the bean counters could easily use that (and probably will at some point).

Can you do this with a 3er sedan or coupe ? )
My GT and GC are both VERY useful Cars in the stable because of their form and function.

Hatch is uesful in today's world

May we stop worrying so much about what Cars we don't have and enjoy the ones in front of us now ?
We ought to trust in BMW a little more than we seem to and continue to contribute influence as we ALL know so well how to do and DO.
They've blown our minds and excited our senses for almost 4 decades now ( no disrespect to pre E-3 bodied cars but...) mostly ahead of any pack
Almost at any given moment on any given road ....
Let's see where it goes is all I'm suggesting here
Having owned a few ( like many here ) I'm speaking from experience ... what would you rather drive even just daily ? ( Besides a P1 of course ) a BMW.

I consider myself a bit of a purist. I've owned 2002s, E12s (first five!), E30s (several), E36s (several), E91 (miss it!), and lots of stuff in between.

And now I own one of these, BMW's 'ultimate client retention machine'

The M2 is more track oriented than the M3, but most M owners don't track their cars. They just want a sporty version of the base model.

I would love to own a M3 Hybrid with maybe 100-150 km EV range for daily commute then being able to use the rest of the power in combinations with the EV engine for when i want to have some fun.

As they say people with EV Range anxiety are often those who don't even own a EV car, and shouting from the benches EV range is to short petrol and diesel are better even when for most but not all people their daily commute is around 10-50 km back and forth to work (at least in Sweden for most part people live "close" to their work and don't travel between 2-4 hours a day to get to work and back)
Not everybody wants to be exposed to EMF and sit on a pile of toxic batteries. Each with its own bubble...
