To me it is funny (and I hate Disney as a company, as a childhood memory, well, you name it, I hate them for that too probably) that this is an issue. A character in a movie is gay. How about worrying about the completely distorted world view Disney movies give to our kids, especially to the girls?

My take is that kids should be left to be kids.

I didn't even know people had sex until the 6th grade, nor know what gays were until even later. Maybe I was naive, but I really enjoyed the hell out of my childhood. Let kids be innocent and enjoy life, they don't need to know about sex or anything remotely near it.

Hollywood wonders why nobody watches their movies anymore and why their strong push to get Hillary elected doesn't work. They are strongly disconnected from everyday Americans. People just want to be entertained without being lectured by high school dropouts on what they should believe.

Realize though that the target audience for this movie isn't just kids. In fact, I would surmise that they are marketing this movie as much to thirty-somethings as well, as the original animated movie came out 26 years ago.

I agree. However, what Disney sells is happiness and fantasies, regardless of how distorted they may be. Without that, there wouldn't be a Disney.

But to above, I am absolutely not protesting because there is a gay person in the movie. My kids have a gay uncle who plays princess games with them if needed. I can't blame Disney if they turn out to be gay, but I can't thank Disney for it either.

Was curious so I looked it up. It's Josh Gad. That dude (or dudette) is hella cool. I don't care if an actor is gay or not, I like him and all his roles.

I'm more worried if a character being gay is more of an issue than the shit they sell to our girls.

I endured frozen a while back, and I have to admit they have improved a LOT. My last contact to Disney was those fucking ice shows and of course boycotts and protests.

I get it, in a way, Scandinavian women are a bit different than US women. No prince charming for me, the whole equal partnership thing kind of ruins the concept.

I'm not saying Disney has any place portraying ANY sexualized relationships (I could go long on how much I hate the Disney worldview, not to mention his personal politics). If I had kids, they'd be the freaks who's parents let them watch John Waters and David Lynch before Disney.

But the idea that there isn't any stigma or discrimination against same-sex relationships is naïve, at best. There are still states where you can be fired (or denied hiring) for being in a gay relationship, and violence against same-sex couples is either continuing, or possibly on the rise since our new 'prince of tolerance' has taken the throne. The discrimination isn't as bad as it used to be, but it is far from gone. Granted, you are in Toronto, where it is probably much better than down here.

Married 40 years this august , two kids , four grand-kids, if anyone of them likes the trailer I'll take them. If for some reason I need to explain what is happening on the screen I will give each an age appropriate explanation. What does an 6/8/10 year old know about relationships of any kind.
When movies show kids / adults kissing their dog I have never been asked about bestiality.
I agree IF this was not a thread in the original story or any previous adaptations it certainly should not be added and Disney should NOT inject their political agenda into a movie that is obviously targeting children as their primary ticket buyers.

They've gotten better about it. Pixar's (owned by Disney) Brave centered around an independent girl and it didn't even feature a love interest.

Movies are, more and more, introducing strong female leads and strong female roles where they don't need some man in shining armor to come save them.

I think I said this too later on. They have. I know since even if I boycott the companys past, I'm not stupid enough to keep a firm line and not to applaud their improvements.

I can tell you that if either of my boys bring home a Disney princess from the past, I'll be in the kitchen getting very, very drunk.
