If the siren isn't on is it still breaking the law? Aside from the fact that he blocked it on an open freeway, I'm really curious. If the ambulance was on its way somewhere and had the siren blaring then yes, 100%. In this case it wasn't.

Got pulled over yesterday en route to hospital. Cop was actually very cool and shockingly young, barely looked like he was old enough to shave. Let me off with a warning and told me, "nice car, but don't drive like one of those BMW guys"

That was an extra special euro arsehole......pretty sure he earned himself a big fine, charges and maybe even a knock on the door for arrest at a later date.

If the ambulance was carrying someone who was injured I wouldnt rule out charges for attempted murder/etc....whether they stick or not they will make his life a living legal hell for a while and earn some lawyer lots of money

Yes, if the lights aren't on the EMT is just another vehicle and should be treated as any other road user (at least that's Australian Law).

But clearly what this guy's done is dangerous, and in most of the world stopping in the fast lane is illegal - so given it's not just some inconsiderate Mercedes driver he's being an asshat to, it's an EMT - I'm sure a traffic cop would be able to invent enough traffic charges to get this guy in front of a judge.

Someone else said it before - unless this EMT's just ran over the guy's dog - there's pretty much nothing that could've happened prior to this dashcam footage which justifies that behaviour.

We call that "brake checking" in Georgia (US) and IIRC it's illegal .

I still would not block or attempt to stop ANY EMR regardless,

I once was in an ambulance being ferried with a police escort. (I've also heard from a few other people similar story), and the driver was NOT using blues and twos. I was conscious at the time, but that COULD have changed at any moment.

Short story, you have NO idea who is being carried and what the reason.
Don't block an EMR for any reason.

Also they ALL have dashcams, and this guy was not only driving like a dick he was driving dangerously, THAT is illegal and he could and SHOULD be thrown in jail for that.

interesting, the theory IS

IF You hit somone from behind, it's usually 99% of the time your fault
even if they roll back on to you, you should have kept enough space,

but brake checking is different, comes under the heading, dangerous driving and also possibly using you vehicle as a weopen.

This all depends on WHO witness's it
BUT you better have a witness that you where brake checked.

OR A DASHCAM

do not pass go, do not collect $200, go straight to jail

Car and mods in sig. And seriously, every day that I drive to and from work [mostly expressway] I drive like a grandpa, typically I go within 5-10mph over the speed limit, usually hover right at 10mph over. I would say that 9 out of 10 people that pass me on the e-way are going well over 70-75 [speed limit is 60]. I don't understand why people get in such a rush?

Kind of comical to watch sometimes, especially when they go blistering past me 80+ then get caught up behind others up ahead and they end up having to slow down.

This. I was once in the back of one and they did not use lights or sirens. I've also followed a family member in one, same situation. There is a chance that they are transporting someone even if it doesn't look like it...just means it's not a life and death situation...

In my personal experience the biggest cocks on the road driving German cars are BMW 3, X5, ///M-series drivers. and Audi S-line drivers.

They all pale in comparison to the douchebaggery of pickup truck and big SUV drivers.

Frankly I take pride in the BMW douche stereotype, it means it's a youthful brand that makes fun-to-drive cars. I'll reinforce the stereotypes at times too, no f*cks given. As long as one is not speeding and driving recklessly around a bunch of cars, where people can be running/walking, or at night it's all good.

This video/review has nothing to do with the subject but just wanted to point out the description of video:

"We drive the 300+ HP All-Wheel-Drive Turbo BMW 335i E92. It's quick, and I understand why BMW owners drive like dicks."

Personally, I see a lot of Infiniti, Acura MDX, and Prius drivers driving like @$$hats. The latter is more like the minivan driver of the modern age....either uber slow or mini-Andretti.

People on the radio this morning were mocking BMW owners and what happens if their car gets stuck on the side of the road, etc. and having "bmw assist" and being offered croissants while the roadside tech fixes/inspects.

Got a good laugh out of it. Didn't realize people still thought BMW's were so fancy. So far Assist hasn't delivered croissants road side, so that's really depressing.

When you hit the SOS button, you have to mention that you are hungry.

Only then will the assist guy bring the freshly made goods with white gloves on a silver plate.
