2018 Porsche Cayenne Spy Shots

Quote:
The 2018 Porsche Cayenne has been spied virtually undisguised ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Looking instantly recognizable, the redesigned crossover has an evolutionary front fascia with a familiar grille and slimmer headlights. The déjà vu design continues further back but designers have made the car's profile appear less bulky.

Besides featuring a more streamlined appearance, the next-generation Cayenne has a sportier roofline and smaller windows behind the rear doors. Our spy photographer also notes the camouflaged taillights are expected to resemble those on the Panamera Sport Turismo.

Porsche has been tight-lipped on specifications but the crossover will ride on the MLB platform that underpins the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. This change could enable the model to weigh as much as 440 lbs (200) less than its predecessor.

Engine options are expected to carryover from the Panamera so expect the entry-level model to have a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that develops 330 hp (246 kW) and 331 lb-ft (448 Nm) of torque. Likewise, the mid-level Cayenne S could be equipped with a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 producing 440 hp (328 kW) and 405 lb-ft (548 Nm) of torque.

Buyers looking for maximum performance should be able to get a Cayenne Turbo with a twin-turbo V8 cranking out 550 hp (410 kW) and 567 lb-ft (767 Nm) of torque. If that isn't insane enough, the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid could pack a combined output of 680 hp (507 kW).

I like the 958.2 better.

We'll see how the turbo/gts looks.

It will remain the drivers choice for an upscale suv. But yes, they are boring as hell to look at...still.

Maybe base version? I can't imagine an asian houswife driving a Turbo or Turbo S Cayenne ($188k). They usually have RX or similar vehicle, but not Porsche that handles better than M3

Have you not spent time in LA? A Cayenne Turbo is like a Camry in most other places.

Haha I get what you are saying, but it's not really like that. There was a marketing study conducted, they observed one of the most prestigious LA high schools - parents driving their kids to school. From 156 cars there were only 3 Porsche Cayennes and only one of them was Turbo. Just for comparison there were 4 Maseratis, lots of Mercedes S klasses, lots of Range Rovers, majority of RX and so on. So my point is there are not many Porsche Cayenne Turbos (especially latest generation) even in LA. In comparison to the Kansas a lot more, but not much in absolute numbers.
Take a look at cars.com and see for yourself how many Turbos 17'-18' are selling there in LA (30 miles radius from center) - I only found 7 cars. Seven. Not much Camry like eh?

I don't know. I lived in Laguna Beach, and my M Coupe might as well have been a steel wheeled Chevy Cruze.

And why would a high school be the hot bed of cool cars? Parents have a modicum more restraint than childless, dual income ballers.

well, until some other lux maker has one that will tow the equivalent 7600 lbs, I'll be sticking with the cayenne.

I’m struggling to find the differences. Maybe most of it is internal, kind of like when they revised the Cayman to the 718.

range rover is ugly and too truck like for daily driving (for us). Q7 is basically the same as the cayenne. I just wish they weren't killing the diesel cayenne or that we could get the diesel S here. my cayenne gets 30-35mpg highway and 25 around town on a daily basis, plus tows 7700 lbs.

+1 range rover is for guys who want truck lol, Q7 is poor mans cayenne, same as Tuareg. There's no substitute for Cayenne for a drivers choice. None. Zida. Nil

I know what you mean, no worries. However, one needs to understand that Turbo to Base Cayenne is like a M3 to base 328i. People see many 3-ers, but not that many M3s. Driving around and seeing Cayenne is one thing. Having a Turbo sign at the trunk is completely another

This makes no sense, they get close-enough similar MPG and are relatively the same size honestly, but to each their own I guess. Personally, I think the Cayenne looks like a lux-Toureg with some shiny buttons inside.

Give me Range Rover or give me death

After driving both. THe cayenne drives so much better especially if you add the tvd and pdcc.

Looks are subjective but I didn't care for the rover.

I'm happy with my S.
