Looking for e39 owners opinions

Hi all. I'm the owner of 2011 3 series 6mt. As you guys know it's NA 3l in line 6 engine. I'm was thinking to change something and move back to classic elegant body like e39 models : ) I don't have money foe m5, but I think 540i with M package might by fun car to drive too especially cause of that v8 : )
What your opinion guys ? Pros and cos please.

01 540i M

I own an01 540i M Tech Euro spec and it is awesome! Had to spend a bit of money to get it right, but worth every penny. One thing though, don't buy one without repair files. Problems on these cars can sneak up on you within weeks after you buy on. Look it over very carefully. I looked at a couple of them and most were far from being gems. Good luck.

Garage List
2002 BMW 540i  [0.00]
2006 BMW 325i  [0.00]
2009 BMW 328i xDrive  [0.00]
2004 BMW 325Xi  [0.00]
I think the biggest thing to worry about is the timing chain guides, they are made of plastic and will eventually fail. The cooling system is also another area to look out for, lots of plastic constantly heating up and cooling down will eventually make it brittle. If the components are original expect to do them soon.

Other than the usual maintenance on a 14+ year old car, they drive amazing. The 540i will be a noticable upgrade in performance from your 328i, with more room as well. If you can do most of the maintenance/repairs on your own it will really help keep costs down.

Yeah I try to fix things mostly myself. My 328 is wagon, so I don't think 5 series has more room probably around the same. That v8 engine makes me think about that car especially with old classic bmw look combo
