Arrow The future is electric... @BMW

December 18th, 2017
Munich, Germany

The BMW Group has delivered more than 100,000 electrified vehicles to customers worldwide in 2017. To celebrate this important milestone, the iconic BMW "Four-Cylinder" Headquarters Tower is being transformed by a lighting installation into upright batteries, representing the forward thinking which is a fundamental part of BMW's DNA. The special illumination was projected onto the building.

Yes it's a major milestone. 100,000 Electrified vehicles sold in 2017.
The 225e Active Tourer, 330e, 530e and X5eDrive actually lead their series in many countries. And the new i3/i3S arrived on the market in November and is selling like hot Apfelkuchen.

Next year will see an all new X5, 3er, X7 with Electrified performance as well as the BMW i8/i8 Roadster.

Hmm - "Electrified performance". Are we finally going to see an "e" model with a six cylinder engine? In other words, actually worthy of the "iPerformance" name. This would make a lot of sense in the larger vehicles especially - i.e. 5 Series, X5, and above.

Of course, a new 3 Series with an I6 plus electric drive would be great too. The ActiveHybrid 3 wasn't very compelling, but if they were to offer a vehicle that significantly outperforms the gasoline-only M340i (not to mention the rumored M340d) - an M340e, perhaps - that would get some attention for sure.

Nice touch BMW!

I must say I'm really routing for BMW in the EV segment. Plenty of innovation in hand, the futures bright.

I will be more impressed when these numbers are BEV's and not mostly PHEV's !

Only 1 BEV in the fleet and finally BMW sees the writing on the wall.

Better late than never, but they have lost serious ground.

...Hmm, can anyone imagine an iM3 (all electric) with the following performance creds:

1) eAWD (..that's either 2 electric motors, or 1 motor per wheel
2 F/R Battery packs for 50/50 balance,..but one charge port!
2) 2.5 secs zero to sixty mph
3) 6-secs to 100mph!
4) 15-secs to 155mph!
5) 400+ mile range in ecMode(Economy Mode)
6) 350 mile range in Pn-Mode (Performance Normal)
7) 300 mile range in Ps-Mode(Performance Sport)

So, I doubt if anyone can imagine this,..just as no one imagined a electric car smok'n a high powered gas motor off the line, etc.

The 1st 100 years of the auto industry were exciting! However, the next 25-50 will be mind blowing!

How about this,...technology becomes some advanced,..and efficient to the point of,....What if 1 KW of power yielded 100 miles of electric range in a mid-size sedan! I can easily imagine all of this,...because we only went to the moon,...and beyond as a result of someone "imagining" that we could!
