Need a new clutch

My indy is suggestion that I might have a problem with my clutch and/or pressure plate.

Common?
I haven't noticed anything in particular about the way the car has driven/drives, and no noises

And if I do - where can I get a good kit?

FYI - I don't drive hard at all. So I'm not interested in more clamping force when I won't use it.

Why did he make such suggestion? Is your clutch slipping? What's your mileage? Depending on mileage, you might want to consider replacing your DMF. They do go bad occasionally.

You can get whatever BPC got when they broke theirs. If it is able to hold up turbo power, I don't think it should have much issue holding up to plain ol' NA n52.

Strange. If it's not slipping or engaging weird or the TO bearing isn't making noise I don't think I would replace it.

If you do replace it, use the stock 330i unit. It's beefier than the 328i and all OE.

Personally, I'd get a second opinion.

What did they say the symptoms were? I've got 220k on my '97 M52 clutch. The clutch slave went at 215k. $65 later I was back on the road. I would say there is no need to change it unless there is a throwout bearing problem or dual mass flywheel problem. I truely believe these clutches can last 250-300k if the owner drives the car properly and doesn't track or do burnouts.

I know of at least one person who's done so. Both cars use the same flywheel so it should all bolt up.

What made your mechanic suggest it in the first place? I have 150k miles on my M3 and 180k on my 330i - neither show any signs of impending clutch failure.

Same engine/trans, why not?

My cars are both around 120k - clutches are still fine. I bet the DMF fails first.

Trans is actually different. 328s got the 325i transmissions. (GS6-17 vs GS6-37 in the 330). Still should fit though.

Getting mine looked at/replaced this week because it is actually slipping-
Minimal slipping at that, but nipping it in the butt now before it hurts anything else. Particularly the flywheel.

Yeah the DMF will fail first. There are multiple reports of it failing prematurely even at lower mileage. I got a DMF click/rattle already 117k, clutch is fine.

Things are happening today...
Was told the flywheel looks good, not beat to crap or anything-
Won't see the car till tmrw from what it is seeming but nonetheless, excited.

I have searched, but in your guys' opinion, best amount of miles for a break in period?

Figured I'd take the 500 miles I have left before my oil change- to break in the new clutch. (Noooo, I'm not relating my clutch to oil, just the easiest way to remember)

Input?
Sorry if I ...

Pretty expensive job? I'm hearing a squeal when I let out the clutch.. thinking it's probably time I replace mine.

I'm curious about the single mass flywheel though, that looks like a good option. Although I don't know anyone who's done it though.
