amazing article...it really brings out the sheer driving pleasure that the GT3 manual offers...but I feel like maybe the 718 GT4 with that same engine will offer an even more visceral driving experience...as long as they don't detune the 4.0 too much...

I said this before when Porsche "stopped" making the manual GT3 because the PDK was quicker around the track - Who cares?
If ultimate lap time is what you want, then chose the PDK. If you want driving nirvana, then chose the manual.

I actually laugh to myself when I'm in stop and go traffic with my manual transmission. I would NEVER trade it for a flappy paddle gearbox. The utter satisfaction I get from a perfect heel-toe downshift makes me so happy. The driver involvement makes it so much better for me. I won't trade it for anything.

That's why my next car will either be an M3 (if it still comes with a manual) or a used 991.2 with a manual.

My 2012 E92 M3 is the 1st manual performance car I've owned and I wouldn't trade it for DCT at all. So delicious when you and the car are working as one.

Speak for yourself. The weight of holding down the brake pedal actually seems more annoying to me than working the clutch.

Driven nothing but manuals in LA and DFW traffic and never wanted for an auto. Driven the wife's autos enough to know they're no easier in traffic.

Choices are great to have, glad to have the GT3 back in both forms, even if it doesn't really impact me at all.

Too bad dealers and flippers trying to make profit out of this car making it too expensive for what it is......

at around $180k~200k (that's what market seems to be these days) I don't know if it's worth buying one when you have lot more choices

unless you have a build slot with msrp guaranteed that is....

The reason some people don't care about manual is because it gets in the way of driving hard. If you don't drive very hard and jerk off over being an enthusiast, manual is fun. The best situation is no shifting at all, single speed. Then it's just you and the throttle, driving on the edge.

Meh. That's like saying audiobooks are better than all that tedious reading. Getting a lap right in an oversteering, twitchy manual car is so much more fun than just hammering out a lap in a boring flappy paddle sled.

They're no easier?
Automatics? No. I mean, a flight of stairs is really no harder than an escalator, if you can do one you can likely do the other. Thirty years of driving manuals makes for some good muscle memory. Using a clutch and matching revs is really no trickier than looking in a mirror and changing lanes without smashing two cars.

In heavy traffic, our auto 135i had such strong automatic creep and a heavy brake pedal that it was much more work to inch along than my M Coupe, which you could drive with just your left foot in heavy traffic. I'm not saying an automatic is easier or harder, it's a similar, yet different amount of work.
