E39 M5 shift level shake/vibration - ideas
So I have a 2000 BMW M5 with 120k I've searched forums and the closest I could find to this problem is the flex disc or guibo.....
Anytime under hard acceleration in 1st or 2nd gear I get a bad vibration, not really existent in the other gears.... Here is a link of the shake in the car Any help would be appreciated Thanks guys Sorry if I posted in the wrong area.

Take a look at your auxiliary cooling fan assembly. The fan wears out about every 100k miles depending on your driving habits. I have seen them last up to 300k, but then again, driving habits. You should be able to see the fan at the front of the car, between the car and the engine. Look closely and see if the wings are coming apart or if they have already broken off. I bought a used 5 series and mine gave out at 91k, tells me plenty about the previous owner....
I would recommend an after-market replacement as OEM parts are overpriced for this and labor can be a bitch in cost as well since the bumper has to come off. The reason this would only impact gear 1-2 is because the car is going slow, more energy goes into turning the fan and it has an uneven swing at low speeds. At higher speeds, its spinning faster (thanks to the wind blowing past it), making it less noticeable. Let me know if this helps! |
