It's even more preposterous when you have 2 BMWs (in my case, an X3 and M2) and need, for whatever reason, to have both keys in your pocket - say, you need to get something out of one car and then drive off in the other. Ridiculous, really.

If you're listening BMW: Make your damn keys smaller! I mean, if the US Passport Agency could pull it off, so can you. -scr

The fobs are huge..add one of those cases and ppl will start wondering if that's a bmw key in your pocket or if you are just happy to see them!

Has anyone tried this?

Seems like the perfect fit. Need to add a double tap to the door handle to lock the car.

I'd love to use my iphone, but the bmw app doesn't appear to be available in Canada.

It might look cool for some people but u lose the actual key. Also there is danger of damaging the chip. IMHO not worth it.

Yes, you need hot air or IR reflow to remove the QFN IC properly.

The X5M keyfob looks even bigger though... if it were smaller that would be one thing.

Super impressive.

Wonder if you got some heat shrink tubing if you could make a super slim version of the key for jogging.

Actually you know what would be pretty bad ass? No button functionality obviously but I wouldn't care I just need the chip for comfort access. We've all gotten those free USB drives that look like mini keys. Would someone who knows what they're doing be able to rip the guts out of that and use it as a "case" for the chip?

You need more than that one chip, plus you also need the antenna which is in the form of a trace on the PCB. It could certainly be put in a slimmer case though.

Why not option the car with Comfort Access? That way you never have to use the key.... leave it in your pocket or bag if you prefer or whatever and be done.

Guys my buddy can do it for all of you at little or no cost, no problem. But as someone mentioned earlier, the OEM key is not cheap, approximate 1800 RMB (close to 300 USD) sourced from my local dealer. Plus international shipping, you'll be looking at 300+ USD for the job.

All the functionality, including physical buttons, works perfectly.

Compatible or not, dealers are not allowed by BMW to do it.

Length and width are similar to original key. But Razer key is actually thinner and thus better fits in your pocket. I'll get you a side by side picture when I am back home using the 2nd/spare original key.
