While there is no doubt Lutz played a very key role in multiple automotive companies, Lutz is like Trump in taking credit and overstates his credit in many things.

Just his quote in the article shows how he throws the entire Executive Structure under the bus and it was him singulary that saved BMW.

The truth is most often somewhere in between.

Lutz' ego gets the better of him more often than not. Eh, that's part of what makes him an icon.

It's a good thing Lutz was at BMW and got all the class, dignity and emphasis on driving purity out of his system before he went back to GM - and assisted in the birth of the Pontiac Aztek!

Wow - these comments are strongly dismissive of one of the most influential personalities during BMW's glory era. I didn't realize the extent of the hostility towards Lutz.

- Lutz was recruited by the Germans, not the other way around

- Lutz was the prime motive force behind the 2002 successor original 3-series, literally dominating the compact sport sedan category that established BMW as a market leader amongst driving enthusiasts for the next quarter century.

- Lutz is one of the most influential personalities in modern automotive history. This is an objective fact.

- Lutz championed BMW's slogan, "The Ultimate Driving Machine". This is still one of the great marketing slogans, recently retired for the forgettable "Sheer Driving Pleasure" slogan. Sheesh, talk about a tepid, watered-down slogan, appropriate to the current product portfolio and demographics

I think GM would have destroyed Saab with or without Bob Lutz. Rick Wagoner was pretty awesome at destroying things while he was CEO of GM.

Lutz is a dipshit.

I grew up in a GM family while he was one of the crooks sitting on his a$$ in Warren and Detroit. He's an incompetent clown.

I still remember the day Obama ousted Wagoner's a$$, was with my folks picking up their new X5 at the dealership. Needless to say, it was a good day.
