I just want to drive Thermal once. Probably won't spring for the M School 1-day or 2-day events there after this event.
It's really far: 500+ miles. Laguna Seca = 130 miles away, Sonoma = 30 miles away.

And maybe the $250 fee will keep out (some of) the riffraff.

It sure was. Went last year and didn't have to pay a penny. They even provided lunch for those who signed up for the morning sessions.

I'm diving back to DC from Albany, NY on the 22nd on May. Figured I might as well snag a morning session at Monticello seeing as its pretty much on my way back anyway. Never done one of these, but $250 for even a little track time in someone else's M doesn't seem too bad. Seems like a much better way to test drive the M lineup than on speed limited public roads with a nervous salesman.

I dont think anyone is confusing it with an M school which is clearly more in depth hence the 1k-2k cost.

I have raced for years full track and lately AutoX. I see this as an opportunity to explore a Track I have never driven at before in cars that are not mine in prep to do full track days in my own M.

$250 I spend hanging out at a club an evening, throwing that at a track for half a day in M cars is well worth it.

Way cheaper than M School at the same venue. ($250 vs. $1550 1-day M or $4000 2-day.)
This is no way compares to either a 1 or 2 day M School. The M Schools are about instruction and way more classroom and track time, M Track Days is about a limited 1/2 day experience in M cars. If you like M Track Days, then sign up for an M School (in their cars) or a BMW CCA HPDE (in your car).

Considering going to the Monticello track.

So you just drive M cars around the track?

I've never tracked a car before so I don't want to pull my groups back leg.

Still I would like to experience this though

The ridge is a much safer track, which is probably the real reason why.

I personally would not want to insure a track day in the wet around 5a, 5b and 6 at pacific.

After doing the autocross at the ultimate driver event at the MetLife stadium, I'm itching for more. I signed up for Monticello on Wednesday afternoon.

Except you're not bashing your personal car, and no concern of track insurance.

I have done both the M Track Day and M School at Thermal.

The Track Day is fun, but . . . remember, you get what you pay for. It's a 1/2 day and half of your in car time is as a passenger.

Don't get me wrong . . . $250 to use their cars, tires, fuel for a few hours is well worth it! Just don't come in expecting too much.

Booked Homestead 6/10 8AM. Hopefully they have a zcp in the M3 or M4. Looking to upgrade my current F80. I'll be even more interested in this event next year if the new M5 is out.

The first M Experience event I attended was in September 2015 with my local BMW CCA chapter and cost $199. The second one I attended was in January 2016 and that one cost $209. Our chapter just did another one in January for $220. They're doing it again in January 2018 for $225, so the costs are going up.

The M Track Day I attended last September was at no cost and also included lunch. This is usually after the event if it's a morning event, or before the event if it's an afternoon event, although the e-mail and the website doesn't specifically mention lunch.

Here's the details from the e-mail:

PUSH LIMITS. BREAK RECORDS.

No red lights. No speed limits. This is an unparalleled kind of driving.

At BMW M Track Days, you’ll leave the road behind and live the life of a racecar driver. Sign up for this thrilling event and drive the full M lineup, receive professional instruction and exclusive access to renowned racetracks, and race to complete a timed lap that qualifies you for a nationwide driving competition – all for $250.

Find your track. Win your track.

At thermal are you actually driving on the track, or do they have cones set up in the parking lot and your doing an autocross type event. If it is 200$ for a track day, thats a deal, but if it is autocross, thats boring.
