Apple iPhone X- Buy or wait

Hey guys,

Looking for others input. I had my iphone 5 for years and got the 6 in 2015 lol. I wasnt blown away enough to get the 6S and my phone was in great condition to outlive the 7/7s.

But here we are 8 and X. Ive read a few sites saying the best bang for the buck is to buy the 7 since it has the same front and rear cameras and more color choices. Along with being half the price. Price isnt really the issues but id like to get others input on these gizmos and gadgets.

I'm buying it Oct 27 the second pre-orders start.

I'd get it because it's going to be a powerful phone with an interesting design and new features. Phenomenal A11 chip, new design, very interesting facial recognition technology, dual optical image stabilization, one of the best cameras in a smartphone, and of course, iOS. I believe Apple is embracing the "notch" as a branding move. All phones look the same these days. However, you'll know it's an iPhone with the notch. Haters hate, but Apple could easily disguise the notch with software to make the top look like a black bezel. They don't want to.

I'm coming back to iOS after 3 years fighting through Android and can't wait.

If you just love TouchID, get the iPhone 8. I personally think we are going to laugh at fingerprint technology in the next few years. This facial recognition is only going to get more advanced, is already more secure, and definitely is the future.

The iPhone 8 and the iPhone X have the same processors, largely the same camera (besides dual optical image stabilization in the X), wireless charging, and similar overall performance. You're getting the X for the design, OLED screen, smaller form factor than the iPhone 8 plus yet largest screen, and the facial recognition tech. Plus, you'll be 10X cooler with the X.

Some online reports no matter how dubious suggest some pre-orders may not be filled till well into 1st quartet of 2018.

If facial recognition unlocking works as advertised but search Samsung s8 facial recognition glitch.

8, 8s, X glass front and back and durability.

Buy an 8 now and upgrade to the newest top version in September 2018?

The iPhone X facial recognition is literally nothing like the garbage used in Samsung's S8 that can be fooled by a picture.

The iPhone system uses 30,000 data points to calculate a 3D rendering of your face.

Didn't facial recognition unlock fail at the iPhone X deput at the Steve jobs auditorium 😊
I guess it will probably be successful overall - and probably the single reason I'm debating holding off for the X

No it didn't fail. People were handling the phone before hand and the phone was asking for a passcode because of too many face unlock attempts.

I would just get the 7/7+. You’re really not getting a whole lot more for the money.

As a 7+ owner, I'd like one and will probably upgrade in a Feb when it won't cost me to get out of this one.

The 7+ screen size is great, but it's a huge phone, especially with a case since it's fragile as all hell, my two year old dropped it the first week with the useless Apple case on it and the screen broke.

Bigger (oled) screen, smaller phone? Sign me up.

This is what I want as well.

I can't deal with the gigantic Plus model iphones. A larger, better screen in a smaller body is exactly what I want. My 7 fits in my pocket fine and the X is the same size.

The x is a good cm taller than the 7, so it's not quite as small, but certainly better than the goofy sized plus models.

Have you even tried that yourself?

We have two S8+ in the family and tested pictures cannot be used to fool the security systems (both Iris and facial recognition).

Typical fan boy material.

Back to op question, if you must use an Apple product and money is not an issue per your statement, of course get the "greatest and latest". There will be a wait though.

About android or other non iPhone info. Not needed, this thread was strictly for the new iPhones. Thanks

Everyone else thanks for the info. Some stuff I didn?t know and some I did but good to see another point of view.

Android face scan is universally considered garbage and even is NOT allowed to activate Samsung Pay purchases. It is "less secure than any other method" offered (Iris, fingerprint). The Iris scanning is an absolute joke. Awkward to use, fooled by photos, questionable in low/high brightness lighting.

Apple is backing up their technology by allowing ApplePay to be validated by FaceID. Industry experts have said the technology is 2 years ahead of everyone.

Apple isn't using a camera alone to do facial recognition. The Apple setup is on a completely different planet right now.

Both of you, who cares?! There are countless other threads to bash or extol Androids. Getouttahere.

Let us sheeple return to discussing the shiny new thing.

Still rocking my 5. Will only replace if it breaks and can not reasonably be fixed. Battery has been replaced once.

Yes it did and worked as designed. It was later revealed the phone will default to passcode after a number of failed attempt to ID the person. If you notice the phone was handle by a couple of people so it tried to ID them and when it could not it allowed for the pass code, but do that a couple of time and it defaults back to the passcode only. This is what happen on stage.

Touch ID does the same thing, Also most people do not know that if the phone was not unlocked in the last 48 with Touch ID it required you to enter the pass code and it also require that one every 7 days you have to enter the passcode.

It is a security feature of the devices. One reason is Law enforcement can not compel you to unlock the phone with the passcode, but they can compel you to put your finger on the touch ID. I would image the same is true to Face ID.

While the display is larger diagonally, the actual screen size is smaller.

You're looking at 5 inches of usable display.
