Cold sake is so much better. I'm somewhat partial to the unfiltered nigori myself

I drink unfiltered every once in a while, but I'm a bit old school. 99% of the time I drink it hot.

I love it, but Caol Ila seems to be under appreciated here! Last weekend I was up in Sonoma visiting some friends that had just returned to their home after the fires. We shared a wonderful Caol Ila 18 as a welcome home toast.

Here is a Caol Ila 25 just waiting for the right occasion - - - cask strength version, this one will take some water! I won't kid you though, the rock star here is the Highland Park 25, although the Craigellachie 23 might be the most interesting.

Nice! Haven't tried older Caol Ila, but it is one of my Islay fav's. I tend to prefer the 8-16 year range, older versions are interesting but I gravitate back to the younger ones (easier on the budget too). You may also really like Bruichladdich (lots of interesting variations to compare) - one of my newest favorites is their heavily peated Port Charles.

In many cases, I have to agree. For Glenfarclas, I like both the 17-yr and 21-yr better. I'll need to try some Port Charlotte's again. I had the PC3 and PC4 bottling and really enjoyed them!

I've just tried Glenfarclas (12yo I think), finally found some in Kansas of all places - hard to get in this area I guess. I'll keep an eye for the older ones to try, especially if I'm down nearer to NYC where they get more of the fancy stuff.

Don't understand old Scotches. Too mellow and lacking in the character that makes them interesting in the first place. I tend to gravitate towards the 8-10 year old offerings. I guess I'm just not looking for subtlety with my whisky, tell it to me straight.

First post here...I just had Blanton's Single Barrel for the first time with a business partner to celebrate a big win. It was sublime!

For me, it's a mixed bag on the younger ones. I had a 8-yr old Caol Ila one time that was was one of my favorite whiskeys of all time, yet I had a 10-yr Ardbeg a few weeks ago and found it to be too harsh - - - - and I like all of the other Arbeg's!

You're definitely not going to like these then (left to right)!
