Same with me. Maybe it will be same construction as the F-type. Only the skin is fabric, but the structure is still metal.

Brakes are in the right place? Where else would they be.

I must be missing something here? *confused*

I'm fine with the soft top as long as they give the option to buy a fixed roof (a "coupe" version). Then, they proceed to make an M version.

I'm actually most curious about the Z1 in terms of the 50/50 balance that the has made the Z cars so fun in the past.

I doubt it will be better than a 55/45 front rear split. But we will see!

The soft top will definitely be lighter but just as important as that is the fact that the center of gravity drops dramatically.

Front caliper is behind the hub, rear is in front of it. Means the steering arms are forward. They f'ed this up on the GT86 which led to poor steering feel. Many rwd cars still get it wrong and just about every fwd car. It's a little thing, but a good sign for this car.

I know that this may sound stupid, but the Toyota car will look different than the BMW, right? Its not a case where both cars sharing the platform look the same, a la GT86 BRZ FRS?

I guess that this model will be an F Type Rival?
We should expect some great engines as well in this case! F Type SVR will be released soon.
Porsche and Audi have great success with their line ups, SLK/ SLC has it's own good formula, only BMW did it wrong with the last Z, making it too much "an old men car", no proper dynamics for such a model!

They'll have to make it a lot wider if it's meant to compete with the F type. The current Z4, SLK/C and Boxster look downright silly next to an F-type thats almost 4 inches wider.

Im pretty sure this isnt meant to go agains the f type/911 range. Probably aimed at the boxster, tt, etc.

And to be honest, looking at recent BMW design language and its models, i find it highly unlikely that they can come up with something as good looking as an F Type. Not even if it comes as a Z8/9 revival, which we never heard of plans to build one at all.

There are still to many camouflage panels on the car for the true shape to be seen.

True that the E89 Z4 compared to the Boxster wasn't really nowhere near as dynamic. But it was still more "sporty" compared to the Audi TT (2nd gen) and SLK. Plus most TT's are sold with a diesel (Atleast here in Europe), whereas the Z4 didn't have a diesel.

No both BMW and Toyota will offer differing designs. The BMW launches first as a Roadster whilst the Toyota comes as a Coupe. Then vice versa.
The same sentiment applies for the forthcoming Z3 against the replacement for the GT86.

You cannot really see much as they have cleverly and intentionally applied panelled camouflage to the bodywork to disguise every single line and detail. But it is an incredible looking car developed from the design of the Vision ConnectedDrive and 328 Hommage Concept cars. But larger and more stretched.

The Z5 will utilise a Carbon Core which will be highly advanced for its segment.
The Z5 is to spear BMWs revitalised sports car programme to adhere to a unique philosophy similar to BMWi but for the Sports Car and Performance segment specialising in lightweight materials , advanced construction, individual design and dynamics. Engines will start from a unique four cylinder to a potentially powerful Power eDrive model with up to 500 PS and eBoost which was used under the body of the CSL Hommage/R.

After the Roadster is implemented a Coupe will follow. As are potential M Models. But nothing is fully confirmed for those as yet.

Sounds exactly like the doctor ordered.
The Z needs to reinvent itself, find out If it should be sporty or elegant and soft.
A bit more focus.
I love the idea of a small light Z3 with a B38, should do excellent in EU.
