Cold Weather Thread

Figured I'd start this for a log - see how cold it gets this year where you live. Because...global warming.

Today was cold where I was...that slightly unpleasant feeling when you touch something metal and there's just that little "sticking" feeling as your skin starts to stick to the metal. That, and when I spent a minute or two with an ice scraper trying to dislodge a hunk of ice that had adhered to the inside of my wheel well and was causing noises that made me wince anytime I hit a bump. Unfortunately, it was too cold to dislodge it. May have to park in the garage tonight to get it heated up a little to dislodge it tomorrow.

Today, with the windchill, it was negative 37 Celsius or about negative 35 Fahrenheit. And I foolishly decided I didn't need gloves or a hat, just a heavier leather jacket. So I wasn't spending more than a few minutes outside with no gloves trying to pry that ice out of my wheel well.

Not the coldest weather I've seen by a long shot but it's come very early this year and it's very unpleasant. I used to work outside a great deal of the time and became very sick of the cold weather, moved to Niagara on the Lake to get to the most moderate climate I could in Ontario. I can't wait for my wife to retire so we can head south for January and February.

Keep warm friends.

How cold is it?

It's so cold Bosco (my Jack Russel) and Rose (the cat) have put their differences aside to keep warm.....

It was 5F here this morning. Supposed to go negative this weekend.

I went to college upstate NY, this feels eerily similar.

Yeah, not the coldest weather I've seen either - I've seen lower than negative 40 Celsius, but it did come early this year. Crossing my fingers that we actually get a summer this year. Because last year, I'm not sure that summer actually ever came. Sure didn't feel like it.

One month ago we had the first snow (Netherlands), now it's about 7 degrees Celsius here (15:30 PM afternoon)

But this weekend we get temperatures below zero, so they say.

Cheers

I was in Edmonton a few years ago visiting a friend and the last night we were there a bunch of us went out for dinner, it was -59C with the windchill factor, there are no words to explain that.

Before I retired I worked with the police Underwater Recovery Team, we used to do ice dive training with the Canadian Military in Quebec every winter. It was routinely -40C, I won't say you get used to it but you manage to function and get the job done......I now completely hate winter though.

I think its too cold to sit in my hot tub today which is one of the few pleasures I get this time of year.

I was in Woodstock, VT for 4 days over NYE. It was -13 every morning. It didn't get above 6 degrees. Even the locals were saying it some of the coldest weather they've seen.

I'm from the deep south. I'm currently in the north on business. It's 2F. This sucks.

So...you brought the cold weather with you did you? I blame you. Who else is close to Ottawa and wants to pay MightyMouseTech a visit at his garage and tool him up with some of his breaker bars?

Man, with all this talk about cold weather, you guys make me feel guilty about dropping the top on my car. But just to be a good guy, I'm going to go ahead and open it anyhow, before our weather drops to a freezing +38º F. Seriously guys, keep warm, and if possible check on the weaker ones.
