The 2 counties still in <severe> drought are Santa Barbara and Ventura. Can you guess which one contains the 'Nard? Our well used to run about 40 feet. Right now we are pumping at 114. The deepest we measured was 122.

I read that today..and what gets me is how we we can't figure out a way to send some of this deluge south as there is more than enough water up here.

Has your neighbor ever considered making a trip to Home Depot and buying and planting some sod? It's easy and will prevent his back yard from looking super ugly like it does now.

We have a shit-ton of shitty water that is getting filtered, but we can't pump it into our settling ponds to recharge the aquifer because it "comes from sewer water" Get over it already, all water has been/will be again sewer water sometime. The water coming out of the plant is so clean they have to blend it with other groundwater to make it drinkable and able to put on the plants.

The other problem is that once you build it, we will expect it to come, regardless of how much excess water you no longer have.

Naw, I don't have sod in my backyard either(only front and side yard)--we like to have super ugly backyards at our million dollar homes.

Now now, don't sell your shed short. If it's good enough for Skunkwerks and his family, then the structure and surrounding acreage (to a skunk's eyes) must be something special.

Looking for advice now from all the wisdom here. I have been getting estimates on a new fence and was looking at the same style as our back fence which is near the same style as the neighbor, though his is much older. He now says he prefers to not spend any extra money and prefers the same style as before--you can see to the far right. The nicer fence would cost about $5K while the crappier style would be $1000 less. So, basically we would each pay $500 more assuming a split.
But he said if we want the nicer fence then we can pay the difference. My wife says why are we going to pay $2k for a fence we don't like when we could pay $500 more for the nicer one--which, by the way does match the style of his back fence as well.
As for insurance our deductible is $2500, which is no help and his is $1400.

The $500/1000 nicer option seems to include much more substantial posts, so you won't be in this situation again (at least not in YOUR lifetime)

I would also consult Skunkwerks to be sure he can get around those toppers without falling over, if he's been drinking

Good fences make great neighbors

Actually, it wouldn't. The quotes are for 4x6 posts...I might even be able to go with 4x4 if I had to. The posts on our fence are 6x6 and those would add an additional $1000.

Lightbulb

I certainly feel your pain OP. This is why I cringe at the mere thought of having to share a fence with a neighbor! I have heard many stories where friends and family have had plenty of disputes with their next door neighbors over: Maintenance, Repair, Replacement of shared fences. Generally it has come down to: What are the future plans? Are you planning to stay long? Are you selling? Which would definitely motivate me to fork over the $$$ for obvious reasons.
Fortunately my neighborhood does not share fences the way it is set up.
I take it there is no HOA? In this particular instance, they could dare I say assist. I am generally not a fan of them. Which I have been a member of for 16yrs. No problems for me personally as they will ride the asses (including legal action) of any would be slacker over: fences, landscaping, paint, cars sitting, and general appearance and upkeep that would potentially harm the sight and value of it's neighbors.
Good luck to you...

WTF...how would that add an extra grand? The labor is the same and difference in materials from 4x6 to 6x6 is nothing. What do you need, like 3 posts?

That's the "famous" shed you see in the pic. There is a space behind the shed which I store all that junk you see in the pic.
