It's really not bad at all. They all make sense, everything's where you need it. I like physical buttons over touchscreen menus for stuff like that, anyway.

4runner all the way! A perfect match for a m3/4.

I keep going back and forth between these.

X5 - gets expensive, new redesign coming this year, rough ride, 2 rows only.

XC90 - I really want to get this, but reading the forums people are having issues, but don't know if that's just a very small population, plus $60,000 for a Volvo, I can get a BMW mentality.(badge snob I guess).

GLS - I like the look, but may be too big to drive as DD, parking, turning radius etc. (will be buying used if at all)

MDX - like the new redesign, has a lot of standard features, don't like the 2 screen setup, looks dated, but is a good value, 3rd row.

I really don't like anything else. Will be getting the GLE350 for the wife when her leases is over.

Just need some help in thinking this through and what you guys have experienced with any of these cars if any.

The 4Runner, while bulletproof, is lightyears behind in technology. The nav is tiny and abysmal and, as with all late model Toyotas (I can say this since we own two), the car just feels cheap - the doors sound hollow and the interior is loaded with hard plastics. Oh, and who the hell designed the interior in the first place!? It looks like a Tonka truck!

My brother has an SR5 and every time he gets in my Grand Cherokee he is amazed at the difference in materials and tech. That's not saying much...

There may be a big change in the pipeline for he 4Runner line up. It is left off toyotas MY18 refresh calendar. But it did get aged very quickly once Toyota updated all the other cars. It's unfair to compare it the grand Cherokee as they are no longer competitors once the jeep went unibody it's more inline with a Highlander than a runner now. Nevertheless your point is still valid. But it just goes back to toyotas old design methods, if the cars share Chassis make em look alike. The taco and runner were so outdated for so long.

Ever since the Highlander emerged, sales of the 4Runner have been in the shitter. 99% of SUV buyers have no use for off-road capabilities and the Highlander offers more space, more comfort, and better amenities. The Highlander also drives like a car... because it basically is one.

The 4Runner was a rock star in the late 90s, early 00s. It was also a beautiful vehicle. It's just not anymore. Who the hell is running that program?!

Well sales of the runner are actually consistent with production actually. People still buy them for what they are, well my region they do.

The Highlander chassis is so tweaked in the 3rd gen it's on its own platform now.

Most people are often into just the allure of what a truck/SUV is and quite frankly could be fine in a car tbh lol.

Toyota struggles with the idea of watering down the 4Runner, I'm more disappointed in the aging sequoia than that of the 4Runner. But again the buyers of those vehicles just buy them so it works for them. Because they can put sequoia customers in cruisers who want more glitz or put those runner customers in Highlander's who want something fresh. Money still stays in the house.

+1 on 4runner! First of all, it is a Toyota, so would make a perfect DD. Also, current generation looks great.

I already have a Toyota RAV4 and want to move into something a step above. As much as I am liking the XC90, the swedespeed board is full of threads of issues not just with the first year model but even with the 2017. Owners are reporting the car having being towed, I can't have that specially with kids and work schedule etc.

Compare it to Highlander. HL has outsold 4R 2:1 for the last decade. I've dealt with a couple of dealers, both of whom said they can't move them. Doesn't help that they lease terribly, despite their high resale.

I love our X5. I would highly recommend it. We also have it with the optional 3rd row.

It also depends on what reason you're in honestly, we sell quite a few in CAT, Highlander sells better because they twice as many as well. It's a higher volume US build vs a low production Japan only build. So dealers get them replenished more often. Some dealers also do not know how to adjust their pricing strategy or even their inventory mix to get the proper inventory that will move.

The money factor on the runner isn't the highest but it isn't the lowest either due to the a typical owner not leasing that vehicle.

In the NW, dealers sell 4Runners as fast as they can get them. Toyota can't produce enough of them to meet world wide demand.

There have been some rumors of the 4Runner (and Sequoia for different reasons) being discontinued after this year for the US market. Its due for a refresh but Toyota doesn't want to update it for the US market due to EPA MPG standards and the RoW doesn't use the same engines as the US (4.0L production is also ending). They would rather shift production to meet RoW demand than doing what it needs for the US market.

They sold 111k of them in the U.S. in 2016, more than double what they sold in 2013. Obviously their sales are not in the shitter, especially if they have terrible leases while at the same time high resales.

Total sales in the U.S. for the X3, X4, X5 and X6 (includes all M's) in 2016 were less than the 4Runner.

Will concur on XC90 software is shit and blows up car..looks nice but Volvo mechanic friend says stay far away.

MDX is solid, had mine for 2.5 years 40k miles no issues, just boring as shit and feels like a barely upscaled Honda interior.

The others as long as they are in warranty sound more exciting and badge/dealer service experience definitely above an Acura dealership

Or go crazy risky and get new Jag SUV..they look sexy.

The sequoia will be have a MY18 its on the production calendar for trying safety sense standard. The runner was missing from that list, I feel like Toyota is just keeping it super hush at this point. They have the new 3.5 in the taco to transplant over to the runner.

If it does get the axe, I'm using my discount to buy one to resell like the FJ

What about Lexus GX? Compare to most European contenders, it's a real SUV! The only problem is weird front end design. If you can live with that, you get a luxury car that is also an off-road beast!
