But that makes no sense. By the time you do decent internet and netflix and crave and antenna costs, cable is the same price without the hassle.

I'm ready to go internet only except I want to watch sports. I only wish there was an Internet option for live sports. That would be killer!

Any recommendations on quality antennas?

Depending on how far you live from towers. I bought 4 antennas from Monoprice and Amazon for about $10 each. They're all 60 mile ones. They've worked well since December for all my local channels needs (though I rarely watch TV anymore).

Not really, with Fibe and internet my bill was rolling in at around $190-200/month. The antenna is a one time cost. All in now I'm at about $120.

I have comcast. HOA includes basic cable with one HD box and HBO so I pay around $60 for internet and some extra HD boxes. As others have said, every so often my bill will jump up and I have to call them and they find some new promotion to apply to my account and get it back down to around $60.

I pay $105 with Optimum triple play..
It's good for 2 years so when ever it runs out I pull some BS and switch it to my fiance. Before that it was under my ex. Now its under my name again as we did the switch up in Jan. In 2 years I'll cancel and have it put under my fiance again. Just got to play the system..

Cable Plan:
Basic: I dont watch much TV and don't need premium channels because I can DL all the shows I want to watch
Internet at 50Mb.. 0 complaints my pirating speeds are between 1.2MB-4MB\sec
phone, just need that shit for work so I write it off in taxes.

BTW you can hack the amazon firestick and get pretty much all the channels and shows you want.

1) I don't use voice, but I need it for my security system
2) My internet connection is barely 20mbps, bullshit

I feel like I'm just getting ripped off. Anyone else cut the cord? Maybe I should go full streaming.
I'm embarrassed to admit this but I was in much worse shape. Total wireless bill, all in was about $340...I just paid it and didn't care until I started looking at cable, internet, wireless and ancillaries as a communications budget. This was an eye opener. I was basically paying about $11K per year for comm. Yes. I was stuck on the idiot channel because everything was separate. To make a long story short I spent over an hour on the phone with COX (Cocks) and went from multiple DVRs to the whole house system along with top level internet and phone for about $160. Phone bill went from $450 for 4 lines, all iPhones to $250. The moral of my story is that these bills start low and creep up until there's a WTF moment.

Cheers, Doc.

My total bill including mobile is $500 a month. It's insane.

I've got Comcast with their lowest tier internet and tv combo. Had it going on 3 years now. I use my own router and pay $121/mo. For TV, I get about 140 or so HD channels including NBA TV and NFL Network. Not sure of the advertised Internet speeds but download is something around 200 Mbps and upload in the 12-15 Mbps range. The results in the screenshot are from just minutes ago via 5G wifi.

What's the breakdown? How much for just the U200? I'm wondering if it's regional.

Cut the cable here as well. Just pay for internet service and Netflix. If I wanted cable type service it seems PlayStation Vue has the best offering. Quite a few channels, a few different packages and even have a "DVR in the cloud" feature. Very cool. I may try that sometime. I think it's $35 a month for the package that suits me.

Another option for a security system is to use cellular. I have cellular for the system in my primary residence and my vacation property. In the case of my vacation property, cellular is the primary communications method while at my primary residence, good old POTS line is the primary with cellular as the backup. I thought about killing the POTS line but the wife wants it around. Plus when we had a pretty severe power outage, I was able to keep my IT equipment powered up but had no cable Internet service as Comcast apparently doesn't provide supplemental power for their circuits. But the POTS line was still working fine.

At my vacation property, I have 3 choices for Internet. Mediacrap I mean Mediacomm, cellular broadband (Verizon), or satellite. I can't even get DSL but can get phone service from Verizon. Mediacrap is the worst as I can tell they're traffic shaping what I use on their network. Also, their service keeps cutting out. Enough so when it was real bad, I called to complain and the rep provided a credit because they couldn't even argue that fact. So the alarm system out there doesn't use POTS or even Mediacrap's phone service. For phone service since I'm an IT geek, I leverage the POTS line I have in my primary residence. I just extend the VoIP/call manager system I run at my primary to the vacation property over the Internet. For any TV out there at the vacation property, I use my Slingbox mated to one of my DirecTV DVRs.

As far as the state of broadband here in the States, we all should be embarrassed when 1 Gig in other first world countries is the norm. We're not going to get any improvement when the government allows these Telcos to operate as monopolies in their respective coverage areas. And we're not going to get any help from the government when they allow anti competitive behavior between the carriers to happen. Case in point, many people don't realize that Verizon entered into an agreement with the large cable providers. The agreement was the cable providers give up cellular RF space Verizon wanted for their wireless division. In return, Verizon will not expand FIOS into markets where they don't already have a presence. And the F'ng DOJ signed off on this.

I haven't got it yet, just trying to decide as I've just finished installing my home theatre after a basement reno, there's a local guy that advertises them for about $300 installed. Seems to be a popular one as they are all over town here.

80 for Internet after 30 dollar bundle discount and 80 for TV with 4 receivers. Sorry it's 160 not 150. But I get hbo and 1gbps Internet so no complaints here.

I cut the cable a few months ago. TV plus internet increased to $220/month after intro and I was done with it. Bought a Mohu Leaf antenna to get the local channels and signed up for Sling TV and got a free Roku. Right now I pay $30 from Comcast for high speed internet, $20 for Sling, and $10 Netflix. You lose some things but I was sick of playing the game

Sign up for Netflix and Amazon Prime and say good buy to cable company. Just keep the internet off course.

Cut the Dish, not cable 2 years ago. Was paying $120 + $50 for cable internet a month. Got Netflix, Hulu and have Amazon Prime which amounts to about less than $30/month. My internet changed and now is $45. Haven't had a landline for maybe 7 years now. We do however have a Magic Jack account for all the "junk calls".

Cable is so absurd, but I cannot find a fool proof way with regards to sports.

I live in the NYC area and I am wondering what the best way to have access to the pro sports teams through a streaming service? Channels would include SNY, MSG, YES, MSG+, etc.
