2001 530i M-Sport Lemons Build

Hello All!

Our team just bought a 2001 BMW 530i M-Sport for $500. We plan to prepare this car for Lemons Races next year.

We were wondering if you all had any advice for our team and easy and cheap modifications to increase handling?

Also we will be gutting the car first so if you are in the market for some interior parts you will see some on here soon!

PM me if interested in anything we may take off and feel free to follow this thread!

Thanks!

I'll try to post an update on this. We gutted the back seats and door cards. Performed an oil change, replaced brake pads, rotors, brake fluid, and tires. Next up is the coolant expansion tank, diff fluid, and trans fluid.

Then we have to do some shakedowns and figure out what is next.

Still need to put in a cage, seats, and harnesses.

Nice work so far. My DD is a 02 525i, owned it for the last 5 years. In the next month in am going to swap in a 3.0 from a 330i. Just been lazy to do the swap.

Can't wait to see that at Lemons. What race are you guys planning to do? I've done a handful of races on the west coast, and from my experience, it's best to leave the car decently stock performance wise for your first race. Get a feel for the car, and find out what you do and don't like. You can willy nilly throw parts on the car, but then you never really know if you actually improved anything. Something that probably couldn't hurt would just be a front and rear strut tower brace. You can make one out of some flat bar with little effort.

Thanks man for the Tip! We are planning on doing the Lemons race at Sonoma in December 2019. The clutch just got cooked so we need to replace that and probably the flywheel But other than that we still have to put in seats, roll cage and other safety stuff!
