After 12 years, I may be getting rid of my first "BMW"
The MINI was the one that actually brought me to obtaining my 335. Fun little summer car it's been, but after 12 years and 90K on the ODO...it's really starting to age some. Only issue I ever had with the car...a coolant leak that required a change of the thermostat, which ran me about $30 and a few hours of my time.
If things work out - I'll be replacing her with this - a red 2018 124 Spider Abarth, 6 speed manual. It's not really fast, probably doesn't handle as well as the MINI, but seems to be a fun summer toy. I'll probably kick myself in about a year for getting rid of the MINI - but I really have no where to place this thing. Really hope I have as much luck with this as I did the MINI. Sad though - the MINI is what I called my ShopVac. May need to change my user name as well

SV, your Mini looks like it's proper fun and well turned out! Is there a way to keep both?

Unless you live at altitude, where the turbo will help, the Miata will be faster than the Fiata, err 124. And either will greatly out handle your Mini, so wouldn't worry about that.
There are rumors that the 2019 Miata will be getting a power boost to 184hp, which would be decent for a 2,300 lb car. |

Unless you want to spend a few grand to turbo or supercharge the Miata, just go 124. |

The times I see the Fiat 124 on the road I though they looked really nice and with the right exhaust that 1.4 turbo sounds great.
Miata is also good looking. |

Had my MINI for a solid 5 years. Your first gen had as many miles as my 2nd gen! Abarth 124 is cool, but I'd have the updated Miata with 181hp. I had the ND and if it's anything like the Abarth, it does not handle like a MINI (FWD vs RWD) and definitely needs a stiffer swaybar in the rear. Damp roads on a tight left made the rear want to kick out real quick and there is a lot of body roll.

I test drove a special edition Fiata that my wife nearly bought when I was out of town on trip. It was an auto which really bogged the power down. Drove the manual which really pepped up the performance lag. I personally thought the car was good looking but just too small for my giant body. While the car would have been hers, I would invariably have been either driving or riding smashed into the car which was a non-starter.

But I will say that I've driven the ND a few times and it does feel a little tighter than my old NB and would certainly need a little sorting before I felt right in one. |

And here's the replacement. I guess it's the closest thing to a Ferrari that I'll ever own.

Nice. I would choose this over the ND just because the turbo torque is so addicting. How is the exhaust note?

I'd like to get something that popped like the MINI...I'm already missing that sound. Hope there's something decent in the aftermarket world... |
