Just to throw this on, I am in a similar boat, but i'm not looking at a 540 at all, I drove one last year, and it felt like it was going to fall apart. I dont know if that was just the particular car, but I was very disappointed. On the reliability note, one of my buddies has an 01 530 with 295000 miles on it and is still in pristine condition. So if you can find one that has been taken care of and preferably not modded toooo much you should be in for a great buy.
