What can I do about the bumper on my 528i?

I have a stock 2000 528i and the "spoiler" on the front keeps getting caught on curb stops. You can't hear it when you pull in, but it catches and pulls back the plastic under the bumper and tears it. White duct tape is a cheap and ugly fix.

So here is what I am wondering: can I get a bumper/spoiler assembly from a later year, one that seems to be more robust in construction, and retro fit it to my 2000 with out too much hassle? It would seem an E39 would be an E39and thus somewhat interchangable in body mouldings.

Any help and especially first hand info would be graciously appreciated.

peace,
